Adopt Etyl

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Etyl, a dog born in 2016, is a lost, young dog. As soon as he arrived at our animal shelter, it was clear that he had gone through a lot, as he was afraid of everything and wouldn't come out of his kennel, and it was practically impossible to pet him. Like in many similar cases, he was abandoned by a person and now another person must try to make things right. So we worked with him to help him learn to trust a person again. Etylek made some really big progress and now he even approaches to be petted. Holding him, especially by people he doesn't know well, is a bit more challenging because it's easy to scare him and during such an attempt he might suddenly break free and run back to his kennel. Therefore, he needs to be gently calmed down, petted, and gradually lifted. This is crucial because Etyl doesn't know how to walk on a leash at all, so holding him is currently the least stressful for him. We hope that he will eventually learn how to do it, but he still needs some time to come to terms with his situation. It's a shame that his life has been so hard and it left a mark on his psyche. However, his relatively quick progress gives hope that with time, the little pup will fully come out of her shell and open up to everyone. Currently, Etylek weighs just under 10 kilograms, so she is quite small. She desperately needs a stable and safe home where she will continue to be socialized and taught normal behaviors. We are looking for a home for this little one. Etyl is microchipped, vaccinated, de-wormed, and neutered.

Etyl, pies urodzony w 2016r. Etylek zrobił naprawdę duże postępy i sam podchodzi żeby go pogłaskać. Branie go na ręce, zwłaszcza przez osoby których dobrze nie zna jest trochę bardziej wymagające ponieważ łatwo go wystraszyć i przy takiej próbie może się nagle zerwać i uciec do budy. Trzeba go więc chwilę uspokajać, głaskać i stopniowo, powoli podnosić.

About Etyl

What life with Etyl looks like

Etyl is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Etyl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Etyl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Etyl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Etyl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Etyl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Etyl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Etyl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
