Adopt Tarzo

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

Tarzo – a heart full of years, deserving of peace → Breed: mixed breed → Gender: male→ Born: 01/2011 → Size / Weight: 50 cm / 30 kg→ Neutered: yes→ Vaccinated: yes→ Identification: Chip→ Compatible with: male dogs and female dogs→ Incompatible with: n/a→ Sponsorships possible: yes Description Tarzo has led a life that few could endure. For years, he was on his own, a stray dog fighting for survival every day. He knew no safety, no warm bed, no quiet place, no hands to stroke him. Wind, rain, cold – he experienced it all and yet endured. Since last autumn, Tarzo has been in the shelter. Upon arrival, he was exhausted and sick, with skin problems and poor eyesight – but he could still see, and with love and care, he began to recover. Today, he is much better, and one can feel how he blossoms when he has peace and security. Now, in his old age, Tarzo longs for a home where he can simply be a dog. A place where he can feel the sun without fear of being chased away. A spot where he can lie down, rest, and enjoy the small joys of life. A warm bed, regular meals, loving hands that stroke him – that is all he desires. Tarzo does not want to run anymore; he wants to arrive. He does not want to fight anymore; he wants to rest.

About Tarzo

What life with Tarzo looks like

Tarzo is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tarzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tarzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tarzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tarzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tarzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tarzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Franz von Assisi e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tarzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
