Thor

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Images and possibly videos: On July 15, 2024, Thor lived on a chain in the past and therefore sometimes shows behavioral problems, especially in relation to other dogs. He has a respectable size and can be a bit difficult to handle. It is important that his future owner is patient and consistent in training to make Thor a balanced and happy dog. In April 2022, Thor lived on the property on a chain, never receiving any friendly affection, and hunger was his constant companion. It is not surprising that he does not like being touched much and is always afraid, not getting enough to eat or having it taken away. So a dog with a sad past that has shaped his character. Whether he gets along with other dogs has not yet been tested. We will report back. In December 2021, Thor is a large male dog who was seized from a garden plot due to poor husbandry. He has already gained some weight and is slowly recovering. To properly assess his character, we need to wait a bit longer until he recovers further and settles in. We will report back.

About Thor

What life with Thor looks like

Thor is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten in Arme Pfoten.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Thor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Thor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Thor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Thor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Thor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Thor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Thor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
