Toro

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 14 years

Story Sometimes it's hard to believe how much evil one dog can endure. Toro is a dog ruined by human cruelty, stupidity, numbness and indifference. He is about 15 years old and was taken from the "death kennels" in Radysy, where other dogs attacked him. He has recovered - at least physically, although he still needs surgery on the ligament in his hind leg. Psychologically... he will take a long time to heal. Unfortunately, Toro has huge problems with dogs that have attacked him. With people he has already met and trusted, he increasingly builds good relationships, plays more willingly and shows his skills. However, he is a dog with his own rules and limits, which he signals if crossed. He also has a strong hunting instinct and should definitely live as a single dog. On walks, Toro comes alive! He likes sniffing, exploring and enjoying the walk. Therefore, it would be best if he lived outside the city, in a place with proper walking areas. We hope that the most suitable person in the world will appear, who wants to show Toro what a truly canine life can be - and that there will be no fighting for himself, and pain, and screaming and the worst possible fear... Never again. The person who takes care of Toro should lead a quiet, orderly life, without frequent guests. There should be no other animals or children in the house. The caregiver of Toro should be an experienced dog person, understanding the language of dogs and the signals that dogs send us. He should be ready for work and not be discouraged by the lack of quick results. In other words, Toro needs a person who wants to save a destroyed canine life and who knows that what is truly worth striving for does not always come easily - but it's worth fighting for! Toro is staying in a hotel near Raciborz.

Doszedł do siebie – przynajmniej fizycznie, choć czeka go jeszcze operacja ścięgna w tylnej łapie.

About Toro

What life with Toro looks like

Toro is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Zwierzęca Polana in Warszawa.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Zwierzęca Polana handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Zwierzęca Polana will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Toro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Zwierzęca Polana early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
