Txistu

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 8 years

Txistu was found alone, half lying down, on a path near Melampo. He had no chip and was in poor health. At the animal clinic, leishmaniasis was diagnosed, so he is currently being treated. Ehrlichiosis was also diagnosed and has already been successfully treated. In the future, Txistu will only need one tablet daily against the leishmaniasis. We assume that Txistu lived alone on a property where he received little attention and affection. Although he was apparently fed, love, closeness, and attention were largely absent from his life so far. It is touching, then, how friendly and grateful he is today. Txistu is a quiet dog with a gentle nature, infinitely grateful for any affection and very loving towards the volunteer helpers. He gets along well with other dogs, both male and female, and is allowed to join the large group of dogs in the run daily. For Txistu, we wish for a loving home where he can finally experience what security, care, and a family mean. He has more than earned the right to spend the rest of his life safely and loved. Since we know nothing about his past, it must be assumed that Txistu will need time and patience to adjust to his new routine. He will surely thank his new owners with much love.

About Txistu

What life with Txistu looks like

Txistu is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Txistu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Txistu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Txistu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Txistu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Txistu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Txistu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Txistu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
