TYRA

Domestic Shorthair · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

TYRA is one of several cats we took in from a small cat colony in a neighboring municipality. She is a cautious kitten who needs time and patience to feel safe around us humans. She has been in foster care since September 2022, and has slowly but surely become more comfortable and settled there. At first, she would run away when someone came too close, and would often hide. But, after a while, she has become much more confident, especially with the foster mother. Now she loves to lie in the crook of your arm, and purrs loudly when she is petted. She has had a really nice development! Strangers are still scary, and TYRA is looking for a quiet home where she can feel safe at her own pace. Furthermore, TYRA gets along well with other cats; in the foster home they often play and wrestle. TYRA is also very curious about the world outside. Therefore, she needs a home that can offer her a quiet and safe outdoor area, without lots of people/cars and other disturbances.

About TYRA

What life with TYRA looks like

TYRA is a small adult domestic shorthair cat waiting at Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen in Bergen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Needs quiet home, safe outdoor access, and time to build trust with strangers

🇳🇴Adopting from Norway

Norwegian rescues require thorough background checks. Animals leave with a Nordic pet passport and full vetting. Norway is outside the EU so import rules differ slightly — TRACES applies.

Frequently asked

Adopting TYRA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about TYRA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw TYRA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt TYRA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is TYRA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if TYRA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dyrebeskyttelsen Bergen early rather than rehoming privately; they know TYRA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NO). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
