ZWIREK

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Zwirek – male dog, neutered, born ca. 2021, shoulder height ca. 30 – 32 cm, in the animal shelter Belchatow since 02.06.2022! Zwirek shares the same fate with Kasztanek and Muchomorek: he has been in the animal shelter for 4 years! All three dogs were picked up as part of a rescue operation from the home of a lady who had moved into a nursing home. Only now have the dogs received clearance and can be put up for adoption. 4 years without any chance of possible adoption. All three are very close to each other. Zwirek is a bit shy and cautious towards unfamiliar visitors, but he is calm and feels at ease with his caregiver. She tells us that he is a very positive, cheerful, and very people-oriented dog, very cuddly and lovable, and adventurous. He lies down on the ground so we can pet him, and he also allows this, being friendly and kind. Zwirek seems a bit "bewildered" by this situation outside the shelter, beyond the enclosure, with strangers, probably after 4 years in the animal shelter, and the enclosure is also rarely left. Zwirek is a fine, nice, and loving dog, and he should also get his chance now. Zwirek can be very well on a leash, sharing his enclosure with his two dog friends. How he gets along with other dogs will be determined. (03/2026 MI/AX)

DE·Show original

About ZWIREK

What life with ZWIREK looks like

ZWIREK is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting ZWIREK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ZWIREK?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ZWIREK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ZWIREK if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is ZWIREK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ZWIREK isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know ZWIREK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
