Ursula

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy

Úrsula and her friend Capitán Pol came to the animal shelter together because they had lost their owner. The owner’s wife runs a small restaurant and has two young children, and unfortunately, she was unable to keep both dogs and provide them with adequate care—both financially and in terms of time. Since she couldn’t find anyone in her circle of acquaintances who was willing or able to take in the animals, she turned to the shelter for help. She did so for the sake of the two dogs. Úrsula and Capitán Pol had lived on a farm in the countryside and had already been without proper care and attention for some time when they were taken in. In May 2026, Capitán Pol was lucky enough to find his own family, leaving behind the distraught dog Úrsula. She had felt very comfortable and protected by Capitán Pol; the two had gotten along wonderfully. For Úrsula, the situation is deeply sad, as she first lost her owner and now also her companion, who had been by her side for years. Úrsula is a rather reserved and calm dog, but she loves people and would like a quiet, relaxed home—without much hustle and bustle or high-energy activities. An X-ray confirmed that she suffers from Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES), a highly painful neurological condition of the spine that particularly affects large dog breeds such as the German Shepherd. This is also evident in her gait, which is why we’d like Úrsula to have a ground-floor home. At present, Úrsula doesn’t require any treatment, but this condition could potentially lead to osteoarthritis in the future—something her future loving owners should keep in mind. Úrsula absolutely hates life in the shelter and just wants to get out of her kennel. In fact, she once managed to open the door of her enclosure and took a triumphant tour around the entire shelter! In her previous life on the farm, she was used to freedom and feels sad and dejected in the shelter. A suitable home for Úrsula might be, for example, an older couple who no longer plans to take extremely long walks but does have a well-fenced garden with at least a small patch of grass where Úrsula can lie in the sun—and ideally, there’d even be a paddling pool, because Úrsula simply loves water above all else. If there’s also really good food, lots of cuddles, and plenty of quality time together to foster a sense of belonging, Úrsula will surely soon feel completely at home again.

About Ursula

What life with Ursula looks like

Ursula is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ursula, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ursula?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ursula on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ursula if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ursula already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ursula isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ursula and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
