Walter

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten · 5 months

Walter could live with children aged 12+. He could potentially live with other cats and will require outdoor access Walter is a lovely young chap who loves to explore his surrounding and find fun things to play with! Walter sadly came in to the shelter as a stray so we know nothing about his previous life. However since being here, he has been a friendly young boy who will happily entertain himself with string and feather toys or equally enjoys human interaction. He can get a little carried away at times and use hands or ankles as toys and give them a nip, so he will be best suited to a home with older cat – savvy children. Walter has an independent streak and will seek out your attention for a fuss before deciding that he’s ready to go off on his own adventure again! He can be a little unsure at times, with loud noises especially, and will sometimes get spooked and hide back in his pen. Due to this, we feel that he’ll be better suited to a quiet home with a family that will be able to give him the space he needs to settle in, in his own time. Walter is such a fun loving young lad who deserves to find his forever home where he can feel safe, loved and given the opportunity to let his quirky little personality shine!

About Walter

What life with Walter looks like

Walter is a kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Walter, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Walter?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Walter on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Walter if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Walter already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Walter isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Walter and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
