Yogui

Mixed Breed · Male

When I read that a dog has to leave its family, I always think that's one of the worst things that can happen to a loyal companion. But in many cases, when I get to know the story, it becomes clear that for some four-legged friends, the day they are given up is actually the start of something better. Yogui, our seven-year-old (as of 02/2023) new arrival, definitely belongs to this category. Yogui spent his entire life tied to a chain on a farm. Snuggling on the couch, playing joyfully with children, exploring the neighborhood - all of this is foreign to the handsome German Shepherd mix. He probably would never have had the chance to experience these things if his owner hadn't passed away. What was a terrible catastrophe for the family is the first step into a new life for Yogui, who now lives in the small facility of our friends from Dolmen Animal. When Yogui came to the animal shelter, he was unsure and sad, lying in his kennel - and then he was allowed out into the free run for the first time. The calm and very friendly male dog was initially a bit scared to take advantage of this overwhelming freedom, but when he realized that no heavy chain could stop his happy jumps, that he wasn't running headlong into his collar at full speed, he began to run wildly, jump, and roll in the grass. Yogui's joy is contagious, and he now has many friends at the animal shelter who love to play and race with him. Our photo model is getting muscles, he loves the animal welfare workers, enjoys visitors, and still can't believe his good fortune. What would happen if Yogui were to go to a family, people who would sit with him in the evenings, a living room where he could lie on his back getting a tummy rub, if he could go for daily walks and make new friends? We hope for this cute bat-eared dog (few dogs have such expressive ears like our Yogui), that soon the day will come when a loving family eagerly awaits the transport from Spain to welcome their new best friend.

About Yogui

What life with Yogui looks like

Yogui is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yogui, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yogui?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yogui on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yogui if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yogui already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yogui isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yogui and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
