Yoko

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 7 years

Yoko lived with several other cats in the basement rooms of a hospital. She has since been neutered and tested negative for FIV and FeLV, and is currently in the outdoor enclosure of the Perrera, the Spanish euthanasia facility. She is still a bit shy but does not run away when the animal welfare workers come with food. In a safe home, she would surely build trust more quickly. She is accustomed to living with other cats and gets along well with them. So, she would definitely be a good friend for existing cats. Update 25.06.2023: Even after such a long time, Yoko avoids contact with people. And so, she is unfortunately always overlooked. Among the cats, however, she feels very comfortable. She simply needs a cat whisperer who will give her the time she needs to open up. Where are Yoko's people who would give her a chance? Update 26.03.2024: Yoko also sends new photos. But otherwise, there is not much news from her. We can approach Yoko, but if we try to pet her, she moves away. She gets along very well with the cats she lives with and has no issues with any of them.

About Yoko

What life with Yoko looks like

Yoko is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yoko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yoko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yoko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yoko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yoko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yoko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Miezekatze e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yoko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
