Adopt Yuki

Chihuahua · Male · Adult · 4 years

Yuki was given up due to a separation of owners and because nobody had time for him anymore. He used to bark at home when he had to stay alone for longer periods. Yuki is more reserved and cautious around strangers, but once he has gained their trust, he becomes very clingy. At the animal shelter, he generally gets along well with fellow animals and can even be a bit bossy and cheeky with larger dogs. He does not find it amusing when manipulated, especially by strangers and the vet, and should be secured with a muzzle. Since Yuki tends to have tear stains, we need to clean his eyes once a day, though he initially resisted this, and now allows it. When out for walks, he shows himself to be a pleasant little dog. We are looking for understanding and consistent people who would like to explore the world with him. He is not suitable for a purse and wants to be seen and treated as a dog. Chihuahuas are among the breeds that are often mass-produced. Currently, we are not aware of any health issues except for the tear stains. If interested, please fill out the application form for dogs. About Yuki

What life with Yuki looks like

Yuki is a small adult chihuahua dog waiting at Tierheim und Tierhotel Arche Chur in Switzerland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yuki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yuki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim und Tierhotel Arche Chur handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yuki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yuki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim und Tierhotel Arche Chur will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yuki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yuki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim und Tierhotel Arche Chur early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yuki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
