Adopt Zara

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Zara is a female Staffordshireterrier - Husky mixed-breed dog born in February 2020. Originally she had a home, but she constantly escapes and was hit by a car during one of these attempts. She has since had an operation and is healing well. However, she starts to limp slightly after a long walk. Therefore, she should in the future have moderate, regular walks but no hikes. She prefers women, and she is initially wary of men. But once she warms up to someone, her friendliness and devotion will be evident. A young dog like Zara of course needs to be kept busy, and living alone must also be practiced with her. Ideally, she would be suited to people who either work from home or take her to work. She is well-behaved at home and content. She gets along with other animals but can be a bit jealous. She would be ideal as a single princess. She likes children and would definitely be a great family dog. She does not like cats. Zara has a shoulder height of 50 cm and weighs around 38 kg. She is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and dewormed, and has an EU pet passport. For further information, please contact our area by phone.

Lochmann

About Zara

What life with Zara looks like

Zara is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Hallein in Hallein.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hallein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hallein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hallein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
