adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Zuma can stay forever in its foster home! 01833 Dürröhrsdorf. Zuma can travel to its foster home in April! His story: Bistrita, Romania. Our Zuma had a home. His owners picked him up from the dog catchers and brought him to the public animal shelter in Bistrita in February. Now Zuma is on the list of dogs who are supposed to be killed. Probably he was about 12 years old, too old to do his duty, and was so unkindly discarded. Zuma is a friendly giant with about 70 cm shoulder height. He suffers greatly under the conditions in the shelter. The noise, the many dogs… absolutely nothing for our senior. Additionally, his age-related arthritis is causing him trouble. Although he gets pain medication, everything is a bit difficult. If it gets too much for him, he communicates that. So our handsome Zuma is searching for a loving home, with a lot of patience and the optimal conditions. Because Zuma is a herding dog and not made for city life. One should therefore familiarize themselves with the characteristics of such a breed and also consider whether the dog fits into the personal environment. Herding dogs are not city or office dogs. It would be great for them to have a large property they can guard. Since the territory of a herding dog extends as far as they can see, the property should be fenced to show them their territory boundaries. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require the owner to have consistency and empathy and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent, large dog. They bring many wonderful qualities. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want any other breeds anymore, as they, despite their thick skulls, are very loyal and faithful companions. Zuma wants to exchange the hard ground for a cozy dog bed and wishes for a quiet, stable home without many trusted people around. Dog experience should be present. Our Zuma is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings his EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive foster home experience. Even a foster home would be very grateful. Who gives the beautiful Zuma a beautiful old age? Many thanks, Maria! You gave Zuma its name and thus an identity! Many thanks, Marion M.! Vielen Dank Marion M.! Du unterstützt Zuma mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft!

About Zuma

What life with Zuma looks like

Zuma is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zuma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zuma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zuma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zuma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zuma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zuma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zuma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
