Ea are doar 3 kilograme, și când am găsit-o într-unul dintre cuștile din gheta publică din Sparta, aproape că am cedat. Era cel mai rău cătun din toate. Ea a fost prima caine pe care am luat-o de acolo, și când am ridicat-o ca să o scăpăm, un zâmbet a apărut pe fața noastră. Și acel zâmbet este încă acolo. În fiecare moment în care o privim, și în fiecare moment în care petrecem timp cu ea, zâmbești. Chiar și atunci când era subțire și plină de puroi, în suferința ei, avea o atracție. I-am dat numele Erinaki (de la o melodie populară grecească din anii 1930). A rămas atât de mică timp de aproximativ o lună. A ieșit doar păr. Și brusc, după o lună și jumătate, după ce a mâncat bine și a primit suficientă îngrijire, a început să crească. Și să crească chiar mai mult. Până a devenit cine este astăzi. O privim astăzi și pare ca acea caine subțire pe care am cunoscut-o cu o lună în urmă a fost alt animal. Dacă nu am trăit și ne-am ocupat de ea, și dacă nu am văzut schimbarea ei, nu am fi recunoscut-o. Dar într-un mod ciudat, Erinaki pare ca are amândouă cainii, primul și al doilea, în ea, iar acest lucru nu putem explica în alte cuvinte. Trebuie să o cunoști pentru a înțelege. Este un câine care este atât curajos, cât și timid, este mic, dar uneori se simte mare, este dulce și totodată arată supărat. She is barely 3 kilos, and when we found her in one of the cages in the public pound of Sparta , we nearly collapsed. It was the worse kennel of all. She was the first dog we got from there, and as we lifted her to carry her out, a smile appeared on our face. And that smile is still there. Every time we look at her, and every time we spend time with her, we smile. Even when she was thin and full of mange, in her misery, she had a charm. We named her Erinaki (from a popular Greek song of the 1930s) She stayed so small for about a month. She only put out hair. And suddenly, after a month and a half, after eating well and getting enough care, she began to grow. And to grow even bigger. Until she became who she is today. We look at her today and it's as if that skinny dog we knew months ago was some other animal. If we hadn't lived and cared for her, and if we hadn't seen her change, we wouldn't have recognized it. But in some strange way, Erinaki is as if it has both of these dogs, the first and the second, inside her, and this is something that we cannot explain in other words. One has to get to know her to understand it. It is a dog that is both brave and shy, she is small but sometimes she feels huge, she is sweet and at the same time she looks grumpy. If she hadn't been so malnourished at the beginning of her life, maybe now she would be twice the size, maybe not.
