• Need a quiet environment: No • Can live in the city: Yes • Get along with families: Unknown • Can get along with other dogs: Yes • Have lived with cats: Unknown • I have the following special characteristics regarding temperament or breed traits: I am a very energetic and active dog and love long walks • Things to be aware of regarding my health: None • The following health procedures have been done on me: Dental check-up and teeth cleaning • Have I lived in home situations in foster care: No • Have I been in shelter kennel for over 2 years: No • Know how to walk on a leash: Yes I am Aita. I don't remember how I ended up in my owners' custody, as they certainly didn't want me. I remember what it felt like to be alone. The days were long and quiet. No one called me by my name, and no one came to play. The yard was full of trash and I had some kind of kennel built at the back of the yard far from the view and people. I watched the world through the fence and dreamed of running, long walks, the wind in my fur and just someone being with me. Fortunately, one of the Mazas Draugasin volunteers heard about my situation and since my owners didn't care about me, they surrendered me to the shelter kennel willingly. When I got out of my kennel, I ran across the yard and wanted to get as far away as possible from that terrible place.

En muista, miten olin päätynyt omistajieni haltuun, sillä he eivät totisesti minua halunneet. Onneksi eräs Mazas Draugasin vapaaehtoisista sai kuulla tilanteestani ja koska omistajani eivät minusta välittäneet luovuttivat he minut suosiolla tarhalle. Päästessäni häkistäni ulos, minä suorastaan juoksin pihan poikki ja halusin mahdollisimman kauas siitä kammottavasta paikasta.

About Aita

What life with Aita looks like

Aita is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pet Rescue Finland in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pet Rescue Finland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pet Rescue Finland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pet Rescue Finland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
