Akhilles (Ахіллес)

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

War brings its own changes, and sometimes we never find out what truly happened to an animal. All we are left with are guesses. Achilles was found in Dnipro without a part of his front leg. How exactly he lost it is unknown. After that, he ended up in a municipal animal rescue in Kamyanets. There, he was taken in, treated, and given the chance to recover from what he had experienced. That’s where he lived until he came to our animal shelter. Kilia became one of the dogs we took in as part of an exchange between shelters. Honestly, at the time, we had mostly space for small dogs, and Kilia was far from a puppy. But there was some inner feeling that he needed to be taken in. So Kilia returned to Dnipro and became a part of our shelter family. When Kilia arrived at our shelter, he already had issues with his hip. Due to constantly putting pressure on it and injuring it, it was causing him discomfort. But over time, everything settled down, and now Kilia lives a fully functional life. Kilia is a laid-back dog who doesn’t rush through life. It was always hard for him to settle in among a large group of dogs, so life in our mini-shelter suited him much better. But the most memorable thing about Kilia is his smile. It’s a genuine dog’s smile. It seems like it never leaves his face. He is always happy to see people, always delighted to see familiar faces. His tail immediately turns into a wagging tail, and Kilia greets everyone with such puppy enthusiasm as if the best is always ahead. And believe me, the loss of a part of his leg has no impact on the quality of his life. It’s just a small external feature that you stop noticing after a few minutes of getting to know him. Kilia walks, radiates life, communicates with people, and does everything a regular dog does. I really hope that a family will come who will see not his leg but the whole Kilia. A good, bright, incredibly positive dog who, despite everything, hasn’t lost the ability to enjoy life. Because the genuine puppy joy that lives in Kilia deserves to finally find its home.

About Akhilles (Ахіллес)

What life with Akhilles (Ахіллес) looks like

Akhilles (Ахіллес) is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Dnipro in Ukraine.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akhilles (Ахіллес), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akhilles (Ахіллес)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Dnipro handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akhilles (Ахіллес) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akhilles (Ахіллес) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Dnipro will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akhilles (Ахіллес) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akhilles (Ахіллес) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Dnipro early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akhilles (Ахіллес) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
