Akira Amarok

Husky · Male · Adult · 6 years

Let me introduce myself: my name is Akira. I'm a stylish, charming Husky with a healthy dose of stubbornness. I've always lived nicely in a doghouse, with my own spot, an owner who adores me (logically, right?) and especially enough peace to come up with my brilliant plans. Perfect life, if I say so myself. Yes, I love people! When I see you, I almost jump out of my coat from enthusiasm. Cuddling? Definitely! But let's be honest... I prefer doing things my way. Sometimes I just want to wander around, explore everything and pretend to be a detective. Does someone bother me? No, thanks. One day, a young, hyperactive Husky came into the house. Seriously, that guy had energy for ten dogs at once. For some dogs, that's great... but for me? Not really. I also have my busy moments, but I like to decide when they come. With such a rascal in the house, things unfortunately didn't go smoothly. Especially during walks: me on the leash, him next to me, and I thought: Oh no, not now! Being on a leash has become a bit of a thing for me. Sometimes I don't know what to do and I get a little uneasy. But enough about that mess. Being outside is where I'm really at my best! Sniffing, exploring, and sometimes picking up a ball or playing a game of tug there, I'm a champion at. In short: I'm Akira. A little arrogant, a bit stubborn, sometimes busy, but also super loving and hilarious... especially when I feel like it.

NL·Show original

Laat ik mezelf even voorstellen: mijn naam is Akira. Stoort iemand me dan?

About Akira Amarok

What life with Akira Amarok looks like

Akira Amarok is a adult husky dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akira Amarok, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akira Amarok?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akira Amarok on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akira Amarok if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Akira Amarok already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akira Amarok isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akira Amarok and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
