Alegra

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Alegra is a wonderful Galgo who simply wants to start anew. She brings with her all that makes this special breed unique: elegance, gentleness, and an incredibly fine, sensitive soul. Galgos and Galgas are known for their calm nature in the home, their close bond with familiar people, and their quiet, affectionate manner. They are not loud, boisterous types but rather delicate personalities who become loyal companions with patience and understanding. Alegra has been at the animal shelter for 10 weeks and still shows a shy and cautious demeanor. New situations and strangers still unsettle her, causing her to retreat or hide at first. Approaching people on her own initiative is still difficult for her, as she lacks the necessary self-confidence at the moment. At the same time, one can clearly sense how sensitive and finely tuned she is – a very gentle canine soul. Alegra gets along very well with her pen mates. She lives harmoniously in the group, showing social and conflict-free behavior. The company of other dogs gives her security and orientation, which is why a confident only dog could help her greatly in her new home. She also makes slow but steady progress during walks. Every small step shows that she wants to learn and can gain more confidence with the right companionship. Typical of the breed, Alegra needs a quiet, patient environment without pressure. Galgos like her flourish when given time to decide when they can allow proximity. Once she has gained trust, these dogs build a deep, intimate bond and show their incredibly affectionate, clingy side. In the home, they are usually quiet, enjoying soft resting places and the closeness of their people, while outside they like to take leisurely walks and explore their surroundings at their own pace. Cats and small dogs have not been tested so far, so a possible introduction should be handled with care and experience. We can test this at the animal shelter if needed.

DE·Show original

About Alegra

What life with Alegra looks like

Alegra is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alegra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alegra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alegra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alegra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alegra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alegra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alegra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
