Alja - seeks patient and understanding people Country of origin (=current country of residence): Switzerland Breed: mixed breed Weight: currently approx. 8kg Hello big world out there. My name is Alja and a few weeks ago I traveled to Switzerland with my siblings from Bulgaria. In Bulgaria, we were found in the woods together with our mom when we were still very small. Since then, we have grown up at the local animal shelter and unfortunately haven't met many people. Here in Switzerland, we all hope for a home with loving people. I am still a bit uncertain and let my siblings take the lead in new, unfamiliar situations. When there are strange noises or uncertainties, I bark to scare them away. But if I realize that it's not so bad, I gather all my courage and explore my surroundings curiously. If my caregivers are with me, everything is not so bad and I feel safe. As soon as I get really settled in, however, I can also be a little trickster and sometimes need to be held back a bit. 😊 I am looking for a home with people who give me security and want to explore the world with me. With my new humans, I would also like to go to dog school to learn the ABCs of dogs. I'm just getting used to walking on a leash. Without the company of my siblings, it's still not quite comfortable for me, but I keep making small progress. I would also be happy about another dog in the household who shows me everything and gives me additional security Please read the following leaflet carefully first to familiarize yourself with the needs of the respective animal species. If you are interested, fill out the application form and send it to . Important: Please only apply if you are ready for an adoption soon, i.e., not when holidays, a move or something similar is pending. We want to prevent our protégés from having to stay at the shelter longer than necessary. Please understand that we will not consider or answer applications without a form or those that do not meet our criteria.

Alja - sucht geduldige und verständnisvolle Menschen Herkunftsland (=aktuelles Aufenthaltsland): Schweiz Zuchtland (=Geburtsland): Bulgarien Gewicht: aktuell ca. 8kg Hallo grosse Welt da draussen. About Alja

What life with Alja looks like

Alja is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli in Switzerland.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
