ARKEI ♂

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 6 months

A sunny giant baby or a pubescent teenager? Arkei arrived at the Kronach animal shelter at the age of 6 months, much too thin and full of fleas. His owners were probably simply overwhelmed with the demanding giant baby. The fleas are now long gone, and Arkei is physically in top shape. He has roughly doubled in size and has grown into a stately giant, but will still grow a bit larger and even more robust. At the shelter, we have tried to give Arkei everything he will need in his future human household; he has been well socialized with people and other dogs. Nevertheless, he still has a lot to learn. But Arkei is now ready for the big adventure of a family of his own. We must first say that a Kangal, as a classic livestock guardian dog, ticks completely differently than other dog breeds and also has different needs. We are therefore specifically looking for livestock guardian dog (preferably Kangal) experienced dog owners who have the necessary knowledge about this breed and the right touch for handling. Very important: Arkei is not suitable for an apartment in the city, but also not for a kennel! This dog absolutely needs a house in a rural environment and plenty of space around him, which is why a well-fenced garden is an absolute must. Like all livestock guardian dogs, Arkei loves to lie outside and observe his surroundings. If he doesn't get to keep a herd, he must at least guard the property, where he reports everything important (passers-by, dogs, etc.) by barking. Since Arkei has unimaginable strength and also likes to test the durability of a fence, it must be really high and stable enough for him to accept it. Even if he likes to be outside, Arkei is by no means a kennel dog (this applies to all dogs, however!). He loves his caregivers and enjoys being in close contact with them. If he has had enough exercise outside, he behaves impeccably in the house and seeks the close proximity to his people. Physical contact, cuddling, snuggling or hours of sleeping in the basket - no problem! Arkei is a real cuddly dog and doesn't mind being stroked on his head and belly for hours. With his family, he is of course super sweet, good-natured and lets everything happen to him. With strangers, he is initially a bit suspicious, but still quickly convinces himself of the harmlessness of the person if he realizes that the contact is okay for the owner. Nevertheless, Arkei is definitely a guard dog. At the moment, he is almost still a baby and it could well be that his guard and protective instinct is still strengthened - which is completely normal for a livestock guardian dog. When walking, Arkei usually walks very nicely and without constant pulling on the leash. Nevertheless, his new owners must be physically fit, because if he really wants to go somewhere, he can develop incredible strength. Unlike other livestock guardian dogs, which are usually a bit more laid-back, Kangals have real temperament. So Arkei loves to go for a walk, can run like lightning and easily handles longer hikes. He is a real clown, has only nonsense in his head and is delighted when he can play and fool around with a ball or other toys. Indoors, Arkei can behave well and is also house-trained. However, you still have to slowly build up the time he can be alone, and he can hold it for a short time. Nevertheless, it could happen with such a young dog that he nibbles or breaks something. Therefore, he should not be left alone for too long at the beginning. He likes to drive. Arkei gets along with other dogs in general. However, his clown gene also comes through here and so he would like to play and fool around with the others - but in such a stormy and clumsy way that it gets too much for the other dogs, which are usually smaller than him. With his former owners, Arkei has lived with cats and got along with them, but we have not tried this ourselves yet. For our sunny giant baby, who has now grown into a lively pubescent teenager, whom we all have grown very fond of, we are now looking for a herd dog-enthusiastic family with plenty of space, empathy and understanding for this great breed. Small children should not be present, as Arkei is just too stormy and clumsy here. His future owners should be physically fit and have the right touch to show Arkei his limits, exhaust him and steer his sometimes a bit over-the-top, but sunny and positive temperament in the right direction. Last but not least, they should also be in

About ARKEI ♂

What life with ARKEI ♂ looks like

ARKEI ♂ is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Kronach in Marktrodach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting ARKEI ♂, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ARKEI ♂?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Kronach handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ARKEI ♂ on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ARKEI ♂ if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Kronach will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is ARKEI ♂ already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ARKEI ♂ isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Kronach early rather than rehoming privately; they know ARKEI ♂ and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
