Ates

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 7 years

Please note: Ates is only suitable for husbandry in a shelter-like environment. In its new home, it must have the opportunity to be handled with safety training (trained contactless putting on a muzzle and leash at our shelter). Therefore, a fenced system must be available where Ates can be held with contact from people but still be shielded from direct confrontation. A kennel (with heated indoor enclosure) and ideally a dog run with outdoor access would be ideal. Ates came to the animal shelter because the landlord no longer allowed his husbandry. However, this might not be the worst thing for this handsome male dog – Ates is actually not really suitable for an apartment, so he now has the chance to find a more suitable home in a quieter environment. At our shelter, Ates has become friends with a nice female dog that he likes, but we rehomed him as a single dog. The handsome one is house-trained and knows how to ride in a car. Unfortunately, he hasn't learned much more – he doesn't know basic commands, nor can he be left alone. Not only is this a big challenge. Ates is not an unaggressive dog and is only suitable for absolute professionals. He defends resources and has a big problem with high stress levels. Additionally, he handles frustration very poorly. If he is not properly secured with a muzzle in these situations, he would also bite his primary caregiver. Therefore, we are looking for very confident people who are absolutely safe in handling difficult dogs and live in a quiet environment in a childless household. A working knowledge, not just for handling a list dog, but for dangerous dogs, must be demonstrated – and certain architectural prerequisites must be in place for his husbandry. For further information, please contact his caretakers. Rassebedingt, Ates is subject to the muzzle and leash requirement. At the animal shelter, he loves to bathe in the pool and enjoys any affectionate attention. He has positively associated his muzzle and wears it reliably. Would you like to give Ates a chance and take him in?

About Ates

What life with Ates looks like

Ates is a medium-sized adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires shelter-like environment with safety protocols. Resource guarding and bite risk. Needs muzzle training and secure fencing. Professional handling required.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ates, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ates?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ates on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ates if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ates already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ates isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ates and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
