Adopt BARNUS

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Estimated birthdate: March 2025 Brief info: friendly, people-oriented, attentive, cuddly, adventure-loving, curious, eager to learn, family+, older children+, male dogs+, female dogs+, cats+ Kata, the shelter director, is frequently contacted by animal protectors who are looking for spaces for dogs from euthanasia stations or shelters that cannot send the dogs abroad. And in Hungary itself, there are only limited chances for the Pumi dogs to find a nice home. This happened again in May 2026, and Kata was asked if she couldn't take in three dogs from another station. Kata couldn't say no, and so BARNUS came to the shelter as one of the three. The dog, estimated to have been born in March 2025, was found on the street – nothing is known about his background. BARNUS is a wonderful puppy dog – friendly, people-oriented, attentive, curious, adventure-loving, and eager to learn – who looks forward to an adventurous life with many adventures. He can also make funny faces. With his fellow animals, BARNUS gets along wonderfully and likes to play with them. When introduced to the test cat, he showed friendliness, so he could probably be accustomed to living with indoor cats with time and patience. For the sporty BARNUS, we are looking for adventure-loving people with dog experience who want to explore the world with the active male dog. Of course, he still needs to be taught all the important things of a dog's daily life, but with the right support, he will surely learn quickly. BARNUS moves into his new home neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport. Have you fallen in love with the charming green-eyed puppy? Then we look forward to your message!

About BARNUS

What life with BARNUS looks like

BARNUS is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting BARNUS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BARNUS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BARNUS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BARNUS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BARNUS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BARNUS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know BARNUS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
