Adopt Benji

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 10 months

Benji – a little treasure looking for his forever home. Benji is one of four abandoned puppies who were found helplessly in a box in front of the animal shelter one day. Despite this difficult start in life, Benji has kept his big heart and joy of living. For two months he spent time in a loving foster home where he could learn a lot: living in a house, daily life with people, and all the small things that shape a young dog. For about a month now, Benji has been living with his siblings Zumi, Tuktuk, and Viola at our animal shelter and charms everyone with his gentle nature. Benji owes his beautiful name to the kind Fabian, who took on a sponsorship. Sincere thanks for that. At first, Benji is a bit reserved for a few minutes, but soon he shows his fine, sensitive character. Then his true self comes out: playful, funny, incredibly sweet, and full of joy. He loves playing with other dogs, is very cuddly, and has a great enthusiasm for toys. He enjoys closeness and affection as well as lively play sessions. Benji would be happy by the side of a confident first dog, who gives him security, shows him the world, and with whom he can play and learn. A dog training class would also help him develop more confidence. But with patience, love, and understanding, Benji can also go his own way as a single dog and grow into a wonderful companion. Benji is ready to give his heart – to people who give him security, time, and love and welcome him as a loyal friend by their side. The animals are described as they behave in the animal shelter or in the foster home. This behavior does not show immediately upon arrival. Some also react initially with shyness to the new situation. Animals from the animal protection have all had a past, which was mostly not nice or cruel. This past cannot be shaken off overnight. They need time to feel allowed to arrive and to build trust. Please be patient and give your pet the necessary time!

About Benji

What life with Benji looks like

Benji is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Benji, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Benji?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Benji on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Benji if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Benji already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Benji isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Benji and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
