Betty &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female

Are Vilma and Betty blood sisters? We don't know, but the two were found together with their friend Captain, they are the same age, and both are much smaller than one might think from the pictures. Vilma looks like a black German Shepherd, Betty could easily be mistaken for a Border Collie at first glance – but these two beauties weigh in at less than 10 kg and are only 35 and 40 cm tall. Small, but oh! That's the motto of our three-year-old girls (as of 03/2025), who are waiting together on a loving foster home for their own families to find them… or perhaps just one?! Betty and Vilma are now experienced house dogs, and their street career is no longer noticeable. The picture-perfect female dogs have discovered all the advantages of having a roof over their heads, including soft beds, warm sweaters in winter, and of course, more substantial meals. But their charming looks are far from all that Betty and Vilma have to offer. The girls are even-tempered, get along well with other dogs, they walk impeccably on a leash, are fantastic soul soothers and warm bottles. They have already navigated the cliffs of puberty successfully, but they are still very young and open to any career that includes enough cuddles, treats, and happy adventures. Have they fallen in love with one or both of the elegant knuckledusters? We can understand that! If you want to know how Betty and/or Vilma could soon become part of your life, we look forward to hearing from you. We will gladly accompany you from the first contact until the moment you can hold your new best friend in your arms – and the Arca family is always there for you after that!

About Betty &#8211

What life with Betty &#8211 looks like

Betty &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Betty &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Betty &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Betty &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Betty &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Betty &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Betty &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Betty &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
