Adopt Bilberry

Male · Young · 3 years

Meet Bilberry, a 3-year-old Deerhound looking for a patient and understanding home. Bilberry came into our care as a stray in quite poor condition, so understandably the world can still feel a little overwhelming for him at times. He is a timid lad who can be wary of unfamiliar people, fast movements, and busy environments, and he currently struggles with walking on the lead. Because of this, Bilberry is searching for a calm, predictable home with children aged 14+ who can respect his space and help him build confidence at his own pace. Bilberry will need ongoing support and positive encouragement to help him learn that life can be safe and enjoyable. He has so much potential, but he will need adopters who are willing to take things slowly and celebrate the little wins along the way. He also finds other dogs quite overwhelming and will need guidance with socialisation and learning how to feel more comfortable around them. His ideal home would be one that understands nervous dogs and is committed to helping him continue his journey. With patience, kindness, and time, we believe Bilberry will blossom into a loyal and loving companion. As he has settled into our care, he has started to show his goofy side with a few of our staff members so we do believe hell be quite an active chap when he feels comfortable.

About Bilberry

What life with Bilberry looks like

Bilberry is a young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Kenilworth.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bilberry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bilberry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Kenilworth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bilberry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bilberry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Kenilworth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bilberry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bilberry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Kenilworth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bilberry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
