Adopt CARLOS II

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

The Most Important About Me: Breed: Greek German Shepherd mix (GSH) Project: Greece/Larissa (0, 11/2023) Gender: male/neutered Age: born 30.10.2021 Size: growing Weight: approx. 27 kg (as of 03/2023) Other: shortened tail, initially a bit reserved towards humans, friendly with other dogs, age-appropriate playful, knows children, to be placed in experienced hands only! Current Location: Foster family in Greece/Larissa CARLOS' Story CARLOS II and his four siblings were found directly in front of the animal rescue station; completely terrified, dehydrated, and hungry. What kind of people are there to dispose of small and helpless beings in such a way!? We will never understand! But CARLOS is now almost an adult, living in a foster family and learning to know life. Initially, CARLOS is a bit skeptical towards strangers, he already runs very well on the leash, learns diligently, and hopes to find his "forever family" soon. CARLOS is microchipped, age-appropriately vaccinated, treated against endo- and ectoparasites, neutered, and has transformed into a happy and playful young dog. He gets along well with other dogs and is also very affectionate to both large and small people after initial reserve. Greek German Shepherd Description: The Greek German Shepherd is a growing, robust, and still very primitive dog breed. It belongs to the herding dog group (HSH) (unlike, for example, the German German Shepherd). Their original task was to protect herds (e.g., sheep) from wild animals and thieves and to protect the shepherds and their families and belongings in the camp or village. Due to this origin, these dogs have a pronounced protective instinct. Generally, they are very affectionate with their own family and all animals belonging to the family, but are mistrustful of strangers. As HSH, they tend to make independent decisions, blind obedience is foreign to them. Therefore, consistent training and sovereign leadership are an absolute must. At the same time, these dogs are also sensitive and want to please their owners, so excessive harshness in training should be avoided. With a well-trained Greek German Shepherd, one has a loyal, incorruptible companion for a whole dog's life. Today, almost exclusively mixed breeds of Greek Shepherds live in Greece. Therefore, it cannot be predicted with certainty how strongly the HSH characteristics will be expressed in puppies, which is why we only place these dogs in appropriately experienced hands. CARLOS II needs people who can accompany him and who have the right living conditions to suitably challenge him and above all possess a non-violent leadership competence. Please read carefully:. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About CARLOS II

What life with CARLOS II looks like

CARLOS II is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. in Bamberg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting CARLOS II, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CARLOS II?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CARLOS II on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CARLOS II if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CARLOS II already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CARLOS II isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierisch Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know CARLOS II and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
