Cobre

Mixed Breed · Male

How often I have typed hate-filled texts about the hunters in Spain is surely now hard to count. All those injured, sick, completely traumatized dogs, whom our friends from the Andalusian animal protection take into their care at the beginning and end of each season after the used-up four-legged animals are abandoned, the many dead hunting dogs rescued by desperate volunteers from trees and mountains – the hunt in Spain is always associated with animal cruelty, both for the hunters and the hunted creatures. Cobre was found injured and dehydrated in an olive grove at the end of February, and the three-year-old male dog is undoubtedly a victim of the hunting faction that relies on traditions, which even managed to have the new animal protection law in Spain remove their dogs. It is still considered completely okay to kill or abandon dogs like Cobre, who are no longer suitable for hunting for whatever reason, or simply not want to feed during the protected period. Fortunately, Cobre was found by volunteers from El Eden in Seville and moved into an experienced foster family. The recovery of the handsome red-nosed dog happened very quickly, and Cobre is now a master at finding the most beautiful relaxation spots in the house, he reliably searches for soft pillows and blankets and loves the security of his new home. Naturally, Cobre has his story and is initially very reserved towards people, but a young and curious dog like our red runner cannot be held back by fears for long. He now behaves very well in the car and likes to stick his bright nose into the wind, he can be easily led on a leash and for some days now, he is also seeking contact with his foster family on his own and politely asks for cuddles. In addition, he gets along very well with other dogs and children. Cobre certainly still needs a little time to get used to life as a family dog, but he is so happy about all the nice things he is now getting to know gradually. It would be much better if he could experience all this by the side of his final family – and avoid the experience of an animal shelter. If you feel capable of walking the path with Cobre, giving him time, and enjoying each of his progress, if you are active and need a warm water bottle on the couch (Podencos have extraordinary qualities in the field of cuddling), if you are simply loving and confident, have some dog experience, and would like to embark on the adventure of a Podenco, we look forward to hearing from you!

About Cobre

What life with Cobre looks like

Cobre is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cobre, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cobre?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cobre on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cobre if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cobre already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cobre isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cobre and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
