Identified by microchip Type: European Color: Black - Fur: short Spayed Tested FIV (AIDS) positive - FELV (Feline Leukemia) negative Vaccinated for Typhus, cat flu and Leukemia Health: FIV positive (Feline AIDS is not transmissible to humans), otherwise all is well At the shelter Hello. My name is Coffee. I am a 9-year-old black cat, and I'm talking to you today because I have something important to ask you. It's not easy for me, I'm not the type to beg... but I've learned that sometimes asking for help is also a form of courage. I lived outside for a long time. Free, they say. Free, yes... but with the cold that bites the paws, the rain that sticks to the fur, and this question that comes back every night: where will I sleep tonight? I had no cushion, no couch, no house. Just concrete, wind... and me. Read more... Then there was this human. A kind-hearted volunteer. She fed me, but most importantly, she looked at me as if I were someone. She taught me a secret I'll never forget: humans can be gentle. Thanks to her, I learned to trust, to let myself be carried, to let myself be petted, to close my eyes while they clean them when they get a little runny and to purr... a lot. Before winter, I went to the veterinarian. Me, the cat who hated being confined. And there... surprise. I didn't panic. I didn't run away. I let myself be treated. I loved the calm, the warmth, the kind hands. Even the cage didn't seem so terrible. A bit small, certainly, but full of attention. I discovered that I liked playing with feather toys, that I was curious about everything. And that I was, officially, a champion of purring. So when they talked about returning me to my feeding site, my heart sank, the hope of a better life in the warm disappeared. Because now I know. I know what it's like to sleep without fearing the cold. I know what it's like to be pampered. I know what it feels like to be loved. I am FIV +, that's true and I won't be able to live with other cats, because I also have my character. I dream of being the only cat, the one for whom the door is opened, the one who has his place by the fire. I don't ask for much: access to the outdoors, a cozy corner, some pets, feather toys... and a human to love with all my heart. I don't know why I ended up alone several years ago. I just know that today, I'm here, at the shelter, with an immense desire to have a home. I'm ready. Ready to put my invisible suitcase down. Ready to say goodbye to the life of a free cat and hello to the life of a house cat. Ready to love without counting. So I ask you, gently: don't let me go back outside now that I know what happiness can be. If you're looking for a beautiful black cat, gentle, a bit battered but full of love, a cat who will look at you as if you were the whole world... My name is Coffee and I would love to come home with you. Find Coffee on the shelter's Facebook page.

Je me suis laissé soigner. About Coffee

What life with Coffee looks like

Coffee is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus in France.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Coffee, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Coffee?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Coffee on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Coffee if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Coffee already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Coffee isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Le Regroupement Des Chats Perdus early rather than rehoming privately; they know Coffee and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
