Dennis

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Senior · 14 years

Dennis is looking to live in a quieter home where the pace of life is gentle and slow. He could potentially live with secondary school aged children, given they are calm, sensible and understand his needs. As he has done previously, Dennis could live with another older, gentle dog, given a successful meet at the centre. He walks well on the lead and is very laid back around roads, making him a wonderful companion for countryside potters or trips to the local cafe. Overall, Dennis is such a lovely dog who would be a wonderful, easy-going companion for the right household. Meet Dennis, a 14 year old Staffie, and the sweetest older boy. With his wonderfully gentle disposition, Dennis enjoys making friends with both people and other dogs, greeting everyone he meets with a happy wagging tail. In the home, Dennis likes to be independent and do his own thing, but he’ll always come and check how you’re doing, content just being close to the people he loves. Being an older chap, he’s looking for somewhere he can truly relax and enjoy his retirement, with all the home comforts he deserves!

About Dennis

What life with Dennis looks like

Dennis is a senior staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dennis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dennis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dennis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dennis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dennis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dennis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dennis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
