Dora

Boston Terrier · Female · Senior · 9 years

Dora is a content little dog, always happy to say hello to people and introduce herself with confidence. She adores human interaction and didn't object to any of her vet exams, and she enjoys being brushed. Dora's previous owner became too unwell to take her out regularly, and Dora became quite vocal in the home, prompting complaints from the neighbour. She isn't used to spending time by herself so adopters may find that she barks if left alone, so any solo time will need to be built up gradually if it's necessary. Dora has lived with dogs before but she can be very reactive to other dogs she meets, and also her companion if there are other dogs walking nearby. She will walk alongside some quieter ones after being introduced, but doesn't appreciate any dog that gets in her face too much. Dora can be quite playful when she's in the mood and will chase after toys if you throw them for her, but once they hit the ground she loses interest! She travels well in the car and can sit, but doesn't seem to have any other training than this. Dora can live with children of primary school age but needs to be the only dog at home. She is house trained but not really used to spending time alone, so ideally she needs an adopter who can be there for her all the time.

About Dora

What life with Dora looks like

Dora is a senior boston terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
