Eefje

Female · Adult · 7 years

Meet Eefje, a beautiful 8-year-old German Shepherd. Eefje came to us because her owner passed away. At this time, we don't know much about her and are busy getting to know her better. What we do see is a sweet and playful dog who loves being around people. Give her a ball, a rope, or any other toy, and Eefje knows what to do! She can get completely absorbed in playing and sometimes finds it hard to stop on her own. She will need some guidance with this. Unfortunately, Eefje doesn't get along with other dogs. We are therefore looking for a home for her without other pets. Also, being alone at home will need to be built up slowly. Indoors, Eefje is generally calm and we expect her to love sleeping, but because we don't know how she feels about being alone, it's important to teach her this step by step. Outdoors, Eefje can pull on the leash, especially when she sees another dog. We are looking for someone who is firm and can guide her in a calm, clear way. For Eefje, we are looking for a quiet family, possibly with children from 15 years old. A house with a garden is a must for her. Eefje loves lying outside, sniffing around, and doing her own thing. We want to give this lovely lady a peaceful and loving place where she can get used to it, build trust, and be herself. Are you the one who can give Eefje the calm and loving future she deserves? - Are you going on vacation soon? - Address and contact details:

About Eefje

What life with Eefje looks like

Eefje is a large adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Utrecht in Utrecht.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eefje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eefje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Utrecht handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eefje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eefje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Utrecht will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eefje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eefje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Utrecht early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eefje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
