Fergie

Male · Young · 2 years

Nottingham 5 1/2 years old Male, tweenie (11kg), blue and tan Neutered Adoption fee for Fergie is £250 Fergie is a bright and intelligent dachshund who is looking for a new home due to illness in the family which means he is not getting the time and enrichment he needs. Fergie is an all-rounder who enjoys daily walks and games with his owner and is equally happy with sofa snuggles! He is a typical dachshund with plenty of character and his own little quirky ways. He can be wary of strangers at first, as he likes to take his time assessing new people, but once he feels comfortable, he forms very strong bonds and is incredibly loyal, affectionate, and loving. He loves physical closeness with his human and will happily curl up for a cuddle whenever he gets the chance. He enjoys playing with his toys and is intelligent and eager to learn, picking up new commands quickly. Outside the home, Fergie is used to meeting other dogs and is a polite dog who might bark at dogs who invade his space but is generally happy to ignore them. He is used to good walk every day and enjoys a good sniff through the undergrowth. Fergie is in good health. He has colour dilution alopecia which is well managed through his diet and anti-histamines. He is house-trained and sleeps in his current owner’s bedroom. Once settled, he can be left on his own for up to four hours. In the right home he will make a devoted and rewarding companion. About Fergie

What life with Fergie looks like

Fergie is a young adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fergie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fergie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fergie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fergie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fergie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fergie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fergie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
