Happy Hypo

Female · Young · 3 years

Our sweet female dog Happy Hypo (22 kg) came to us from difficult circumstances at our shelter. Through her behavior, we suspect that her past was not always pleasant. She initially meets strangers with some skepticism. However, once she has built trust, she quickly opens up and shows herself to be happy and friendly. In unfamiliar situations, Happy Hypo clearly shows that she feels overwhelmed and needs clear guidance from her trusted people in such moments. Whether she has had much contact with other dogs and is therefore well socialized cannot be determined with certainty. She barks loudly at unfamiliar dogs and keeps them at a distance, but we have noticed that she barks out of frustration, as she would like to make contact. She is more social with male dogs here, but her attitude towards female dogs is determined by the individual. In general, Happy Hypo is a rather insecure female dog that reacts cautiously in new situations. Therefore, we wish for her a quiet home with people who can provide her with security, engage her in species-appropriate activities, and offer her sufficient opportunities for retreat and quiet phases.

About Happy Hypo

What life with Happy Hypo looks like

Happy Hypo is a young adult dog waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Happy Hypo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Happy Hypo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Happy Hypo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Happy Hypo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Happy Hypo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Happy Hypo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Happy Hypo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
