Adopt Havana

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Update 21.10.2023: Havana unfortunately returned to us. Something must have happened; after the owner came back from vacation, she started having accidents in the apartment. After visiting us, it improved a bit, but unfortunately only temporarily. Because the owner works as a nurse and has night shifts, it was no longer bearable. Havana did this intentionally out of revenge, because when the owner came home, they went for a walk, then the owner went to sleep, and after two or three hours she was awakened by the smell... So we are looking for a house with a garden, with access inside, where the Havanna can stay permanently. She is a nice little dog, a sweetheart, needs to be inside, especially now in winter... Havana is a young female dog, probably a mix of something bulldog-like. Some "good guy" (previous owner) threw her over the fence to the neighbors, who don't live there. The scared puppy, obviously used to bad things in life, first tried to eat me. After a while, she listened and we went home together. When Havana realized that the bad things were behind her, that nothing threatens her anymore with us, she gets fed and has a warm bed with blankets, and she completely changed into a real sweetheart. Sometimes she still remembers that there was also something bad, but basically, she has already become friends with the other dogs in the exercise run, and it doesn't bother her at all that they are several times bigger than her, and when she gets scared and sees that the others are fine, she calms down too. We are looking for a great home for the Havanna, ideally a family house with access inside, but she would definitely get used to an apartment as well, she just needs to learn hygiene. This can be done relatively quickly with an adult dog.

Havana to robila vyslovene z pomsty, pretože keď prišla panička domov, šli sa vyvenčiť, potom si majiteľka ľahla spať a o dve - tri hodinky ju zobudil zápach... Takže hľadáme pre Havanu domček so záhradkou, s prístupom dovnútra, kde ostane už natrvalo.

About Havana

What life with Havana looks like

Havana is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at OZ Záchranný koráb in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Havana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Havana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. OZ Záchranný koráb handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Havana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Havana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — OZ Záchranný koráb will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Havana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Havana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with OZ Záchranný koráb early rather than rehoming privately; they know Havana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
