Hund Bero

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 13 years

Bero was a German Shepherd mix born around 2007. He originally came from Bulgaria and arrived at the Tierlebenshof on January 7, 2015. What we know about Bero's past in Bulgaria is that he lived on a chain and had neither dog society nor contact with humans. After a failed rehoming attempt by an animal shelter, he came to the Tierlebenshof due to his age and appealing behavior. Once he experienced proximity to a human pack, he tried everything to gain attention and establish a connection with his pack. This behavior was also evident at the Tierlebenshof. He delighted in every bit of attention and living with his humans. Everything was new to him, and every new experience was absorbed like a sponge, then it was on to the next adventure of everyday life. New things were particularly fascinating and had to be directly in his possession to be examined closely. This especially applied to essential properties like, for example, how much a Tupperware box could withstand before breaking or whether it might even be edible. If interesting things were not willingly given, they had to be stolen. Here, Bero showed his entire inventiveness. In the pack, he was well received, even though his restless nature and herding instinct often put the pack into a state of upheaval. But he always meant well and was an absolutely lovely fellow who, at the Tierlebenshof, had the time and space to fulfill his catch-up needs in life. After a long illness, Bero passed away in the summer of 2019, traveling to the Rainbow Bridge. He signaled more than clearly that life had become too hard for him and he simply wanted to go with dignity and peace. Bero was around 13 years old. "Dear Bero, saying goodbye to you was very, very hard. You didn't have much of a good life. For many years, you were in Bulgaria on a short chain, and no one took care of you. When you finally escaped from this hell, you were rehomed to a family that didn't want such a large dog in their home. You couldn't endure the loneliness in the garden and only barked. You had to leave as soon as possible and came to us at the Tierlebenshof. Oh Bero, you were initially a real daredevil and bit in on occasion. But it was so wonderful to see you transform over the years into a trusting, loving, people-oriented dog. You followed me at every step, always wanting to be near us humans. It hurts that we had to let you go, but we know that you wanted it this way and that you now have peace and rest. Bero, come to the Rainbow Bridge well, let yourself be well. There will certainly be plenty of your favorite foods, paprika, and carrots. Take care, you wonderful boy! We will see you again someday..."

DE·Show original

Mach’s gut, Du wunderbarer Junge! Wir sehen uns irgendwann wieder…“ – Ruth

About Hund Bero

What life with Hund Bero looks like

Hund Bero is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Bero, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Bero?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Bero on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Bero if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Bero already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Bero isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Bero and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
