Hund Paulchen

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 16 years

Paulchen was born around 2006 (we estimate him to be a bit older) in Romania as a street dog and lived for a long time on a cemetery grounds. Somewhere along the way, like it unfortunately often happens, he was caught and brought to a shelter. Animal welfare workers rescued him from there and he was rehomed to Germany. In December 2017, Paulchen arrived at his new home in Germany. Since the apartment of his new owners was in a multi-story building on the third floor, Paulchen did not feel comfortable there. Apart from his walks, he had to stay in the apartment. He could not form a bond with his people either. On April 7, 2018, Paulchen moved to the Tierlebenshof. Here he enjoys his freedom: he can be in the house or on the grounds as he wishes. Paulchen is a very affectionate dog, though not without small quirks. He likes to assert his will. So it can happen that he tries to snap when someone holds him by the collar. Paulchen’s sanctuary is his little pillow. When he lies on his spot, no other dog dares to come near. He bares his teeth, grumbles, and does not hesitate to chase away even larger dogs. Otherwise, Paulchen gets along well with the pack; he was quickly integrated and got along with all the other dogs – with the small exception when he guards his spot. On Saturday, June 18, Paulchen made his last journey to the rainbow land. Paulchen suffered from a spleen tumor with peritoneal and hepatobiliary inflammation. We tried everything, but when he stopped eating and drinking and no longer stood up, we knew we had to let him go. Paulchen was between 15 and 16 years old and lived on the Tierlebenshof since April 7, 2018. Letting you go dealt us another hard blow! You were such a dear little guy, usually in a good mood, and you never sought a fight! When you did get “grumpy,” it had its reason, because you didn’t like to be treated like anything. Teeth were often shown… You would daily patrol the grounds and liked to hide under a bush where you weren’t immediately seen, but everything was in your line of sight. Dear little Rumpelstilzchen, we will miss you very much! We hope that you are doing well where you are now, that the food tastes good again, and that you have the urge to patrol somewhere! Somewhere, we are sure we will see you again! Until then, take care, you sweet guy!

DE·Show original

Du fehlst so sehr…

About Hund Paulchen

What life with Hund Paulchen looks like

Hund Paulchen is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Paulchen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Paulchen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Paulchen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Paulchen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Paulchen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Paulchen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Paulchen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
