Ivy (Kira)

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Ivy, full of life and eager to discover the world. Sometimes a story begins in a place where no one would suspect a dog. Ivy, who was previously called Kira, was found together with Neo and the now unfortunately deceased Kora on an abandoned field in the middle of nowhere. Three dogs, left to their own devices. While Kora unfortunately lost the fight against three infectious diseases, Ivy and Neo are now looking for people who can finally show them what a real home feels like. You can read the whole story of Ivy, Neo, and Kora here. Today, Ivy lives in our animal shelter RISKA in Serbia. But the shelter is not the place where this young female dog can be happy. Because for Ivy, every day in the shelter is one too many. Between noise, many dogs and hustle and bustle, it is difficult for her to come to rest. We wish for her nothing more than a home where she can finally arrive. It becomes clear after a short time what a special dog she is: Ivy loves people above all else. She seeks closeness, enjoys every caress and meets people with a trust that is simply impressive despite her past. Aggressive behavior has never shown itself even in stressful situations. Instead, it orients itself above all in stressful situations to the people it trusts. That Ivy sometimes still acts like a rambunctious puppy probably has a simple reason. Much suggests that she spent a large part of her life in isolation, possibly in a small shed or stable, as is unfortunately often the case in Serbia. She had probably hardly any opportunity to get to know the world. Later she lived on her own on the abandoned field. Many everyday things that are self-evident for other dogs, Ivy probably never experienced. The more beautiful it is to see how quickly she learns. Our volunteer Bojana, who found the three, spends a lot of time with her. Not long ago, she didn't even dare to get close to a car. Today she gets in quite naturally. Even the collar and harness were completely foreign to her at first. In the meantime, she is already running safely on both. Ivy shows every day how adaptable and eager to learn she is when you encounter her with calmness, patience and understanding. With other dogs, Ivy also shows herself rather reserved in the animal shelter. But Neo and Ivy still have a close friendship. While she gets along fairly well in the animal shelter, dog encounters outside the animal shelter still unsettle her. Her heart belongs to people anyway. That's why we can well imagine that she would feel comfortable as a single dog. But also a calm and confident first dog would be a good support for Ivy. We wish Ivy people who enjoy showing a young dog the world. People who are calm and confident and give her the security she has never known before. Who gives this gentle animal protection dog this chance, gets a faithful, incredibly human companion who blossoms a little more every day. Maybe Ivy is waiting for you. Info: Ivy is ready to travel and travels like all others via Traces with a licensed transport company. 🐶🚗 You can't adopt Ivy, but you still want to support her? No problem. Heute lebt Ivy in unserem Tierheim RISKA in Serbien. About Ivy (Kira)

What life with Ivy (Kira) looks like

Ivy (Kira) is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad in Aachen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ivy (Kira), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ivy (Kira)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ivy (Kira) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ivy (Kira) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ivy (Kira) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ivy (Kira) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ivy (Kira) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
