Jock

Border Collie · Male · Senior · 13 years

Jock is a friendly little chap who adores a fuss and a snuggle. He appreciates human company and comfort, loves treats, and makes new friends quickly. Jock enjoys carrying his soft toys and rope toys around with him. He is used to living with similar dogs and out and about on his walks he is happy to say ‘hello’ to other dogs and have a mooch about with them, calm and gentle ones, he would not appreciate boisterous. He plods along gently on his lead and is happy to just do short strolls with plenty of opportunities to sniff the bushes, flowers, and have a roll about in the grass. Variety is the spice of life – Jock would love a variety of locations for his short strolls, taking in different smells; investigating different scents. Golden oldie Jack is a thirteen-year-old Border Terrier cross Lakeland looking for a loving home. He could potentially share his home with another senior dog or similar size and temperament. He has no history around cats, small furries or livestock. Jock could live with secondary school aged children. He is friendly around visitors to the home and would prefer a quieter home environment where he can relax; his sight and hearing is not as good as it used to be. He is housetrained and he travels well in the car. Jock would like people to be with him most of the time. Time left alone can be built up gradually.

About Jock

What life with Jock looks like

Jock is a small senior border collie dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe in Ilfracombe.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jock, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jock?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ilfracombe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jock on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jock if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jock already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jock isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ilfracombe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jock and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
