Lily

Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Lily – Essex Adoption fee is £250 5 years old Cream, long haired, mini Neutered Lily is a beautiful and loving girl who is looking for a very special home that can help her manage to navigate life as an almost completely blind dog. Her current owners are heartbroken by the decision to rehome her but are finding it increasingly difficult to provide the near constant companionship she requires in order to feel safe. Her next family will need to commit to a few meets so they can start to build a bond which will help Lily navigate the eventual move to her new home. Lily is a very affectionate dog who loves being close to her family and enjoys cuddling. Despite her disability, she is still an active girl who enjoys playtime, especially chasing toys, and her daily walks where she can still manage to walk off-lead. Lily is not crate trained and sleeps in her own bed. Lily is an anxious girl and can be reactive around strangers, other dogs and in other situations that she finds challenging. She can become stressed, which manifests as barking and difficulty settling down. She has occasionally snapped at people who approached when she has felt vulnerable but this has been well managed and rarely happens now. We will provide full behaviourist back-up so her needs as a visually impaired dog are understood and respected. She is a very food-motivated dog, so continued training and positive reinforcement should help her to settle and feel less anxious over time. Lily is a loving soul who needs a home that will commit fully to her needs. With the right training, patience, and love, Lily will continue to make great progress and be a wonderful companion. Requirements in a home A home where she is rarely left on her own A family committed to working with a blind dog No other dogs – Lily likes dogs outside the home, but would prefer to be someone’s one and only! About Lily

What life with Lily looks like

Lily is a adult dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lily, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lily?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lily on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lily if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lily already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lily isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lily and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
