Adopt Lily – Potential Home Found

Female · Adult · 5 years

Essex 5 years old Female, miniature dachshund Tan, long haired coat Neutered Adoption fee is £350 Lily is a loving, loyal, and affectionate girl who is completely blind and suffers from separation anxiety. Her current owners are heartbroken by the decision to rehome her but are finding it increasingly difficult to provide the near constant companionship she requires. She is currently spending time alone at home, which her owners feel is unsuitable and unfair for her. Lily is a very affectionate dog who loves being close to her family and enjoys cuddling. She enjoys playtime, especially chasing toys, she enjoys her daily walks and can walk off-lead but needs close supervision due to her blindness. Lily is not crate trained and sleeps in her own bed. Lily can be reactive around strangers, other dogs and in other situations that she finds challenging. She can become stressed, which manifests as barking and difficulty settling down. Lily has attended Doggy Day Care for three years and has had a few instances of reacting badly to other dogs. In the past, especially when she was losing her sight, Lily would warn people off with an undergrowl and, on occasion, has snapped when she has been approached and she’s found herself in a vulnerable position. However, through training and management, this behaviour is now rare, showing her capacity to learn and adapt with the right support. Lily is highly motivated by food and will often settle when treats are scattered, making her an excellent candidate for continued positive-reinforcement training. Her current owners regret that they lacked the experience and consistency needed for a dog with anxiety, emphasising that the right training approach is crucial for Lily’s continued progress. Support will be provided by The Red Foundation including any behaviour support Lily is a loving soul who needs a home that will commit fully to her needs. With the right training, patience, and love, Lily can continue to make great progress and be a wonderful companion. Lily thrives with her core family. While she has been fine with gentle children (10+), her reactivity to strangers means a quiet, predictable home environment is preferred. She might be happiest as an only dog or with another very calm, established dog following careful introductions. Requirements in a home : A home where her time alone is minimal A patient and understanding adult only home or with children age 10+ Someone willing to work with The Red Foundation behaviour team to help manage her fear-based reactivity and aggression triggers. Experience with blind dogs preferred but not essential No other dogs or possibly an older calm dog Children age 10+ years To find out more about Lily, please click Make Enquiry or email
