Luna

Dachshund · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Luna – Leicestershire, East Midlands Adoption Fee: £350 Luna is looking for a fresh start with a family who can give her the time, love and attention she deserves. The owner has made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome her due to increasing work commitments and family responsibilities. As a result, Luna now spends much of the day in a crate and receives very little exercise or one-to-one attention. This decision has been made entirely out of love, with the hope that she can enjoy a happier, more fulfilling life. Luna is an 8-year-old KC Registered Miniature Dachshund with lots of personality. Several years ago, after having a litter of puppies, Luna developed IVDD. Thankfully, she made an excellent recovery and is no longer in any pain. She walks normally, enjoys running around and loves life. The only lasting effect is that she can sometimes struggle to jump onto higher furniture, although she’s always determined to try and often manages it. Luna does have some behavioural challenges that her new family should be aware of. She is not suitable to live with cats and can be reactive towards other dogs, bicycles, cars and other moving objects when out on walks. She absolutely loves toys but is a very enthusiastic chewer and can destroy most soft toys within minutes. She also occasionally wees indoors. Given that she currently spends long periods crated with very little stimulation or exercise, there’s every chance these behaviours could improve once she is receiving regular walks, enrichment and plenty of attention in a more active home. She is looking for a family who can offer: Plenty of love, time and companionship. Daily walks and mental stimulation. Time outside of a crate to simply enjoy running around, playing and having some freedom. A stable, committed home where she can become a cherished member of the family. If you believe you could offer Luna the loving, active home she deserves, we would love to hear from you If you feel you could offer Luna the stable, loving home she deserves and are ready for plenty of cuddles and companionship, please contact .

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is a puppy/kitten dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
