Adopt Margot

Labrador Retriever · Female · Adult · 8 years

During our Sardinian tour in September 2025, of course, meeting the new dogs at Canile Arzachena and catching up with some of the already known shelter companions was on the agenda. In enclosure 23, the wonderful trio Athena, Margot, and Zenon were already waiting for us. The three siblings had been a family for many years, sharing happiness together. But private circumstances now led to the fact that Athena, Margot, and Zenon lost their home and ended up at Canile. It really broke our hearts, because it must have been a shock for the three wonderful, loving dogs to be torn from their home, having to leave everything familiar behind. Athena, Margot, and Zenon were overjoyed when we entered their enclosure. They were constantly around us, enjoying our affection and cuddles. They didn't want to let us go. And it was also really hard for us to say goodbye to them. Even though the dogs at Canile Arzachena receive sufficient food and the staff are very friendly: a real home cannot be replaced by Canile. And for dogs who have already lived in a family for years, it must be especially hard to get used to life in a Canile. Athena, Margot, and Zenon are not young anymore. We therefore wish very much that they do not have to stay at Canile for too long, but rather get the chance to make the big journey to Germany. Here, they should find wonderful homes with loving people and be able to enjoy a few more beautiful years in the family circle. Would you like to give Athena, Margot, or Zenon their dream home with a close family connection? May 1, 2026: Margot was allowed to travel to her German foster home. If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We provide support throughout Germany.

About Margot

What life with Margot looks like

Margot is a extra-large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Margot, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Margot?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Margot on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Margot if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Margot already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Margot isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Margot and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
