Adopt Matyi-5

Maltese · Male · Senior · 10 years

Country of Origin: Hungary Unfortunately, it has no end; on April 17, 2026, three more breeding dogs, Matyi, Minni, and Muci, entered the our shelter, some in a deplorable state. What these dogs had to endure was simply hell on earth. They lived under the worst conditions and were misused as breeding machines. One must be aware of this when ordering cheap puppies online. As long as this business continues to thrive, nothing will change. Thankfully, for these three four-legged friends, it is now over. Matyi has also made it. We are crossing our fingers that after a life of exploitation, they can finally enjoy a species-appropriate life. We really wish that Matyi can soon experience what it means to be a true family member, loved and respected and have his own people who love him just as he is and enable him a wonderful life. We do not know what he experienced, probably not much good. Matyi is gradually warming up and it's nice to see that he is still willing to trust humans if given time, step by step towards a new life. He slowly enjoys being cuddled and receiving attention and affection, something he didn't know from his past. For the first few minutes, he is still somewhat shy, but he gains trust when he realizes that people mean well with him. Matyi still needs to learn various things about dog basics, but spending time with him will undoubtedly be very enjoyable. His communication with fellow animals is excellent, and having a competent second dog could greatly support and help him establish himself in his new life. The sun should finally shine for our sensitive Matyi! He has missed so much in his life. We are looking for loving and patient people with experience handling insecure dogs who initially do not have any expectations of Matyi but give him the time he needs to settle in. Understanding people who show him how it feels to have a home, who give him lots of love, care, security, and safety, and love him just as he is. Matyi will surely soon realize that he can trust his people and enjoy a happy and worry-free life. Who has a heart for Matyi? As is common with breeding dogs, Matyi also has his challenges; the harsh life, exploitation, and the neglect of his former owners have left their marks. Matyi has lost some teeth and has an ear infection, which he is currently being treated for, as well as swelling on the left side of his neck. Matyi-5 may travel to a foster home in Switzerland at the end of May 2026. Please do not send an inquiry form to animal-happyend. If interested, you can contact Mrs. Edith Bruhin directly, or via email:

About Matyi-5

What life with Matyi-5 looks like

Matyi-5 is a senior maltese dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Matyi-5, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Matyi-5?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Matyi-5 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Matyi-5 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Matyi-5 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Matyi-5 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Matyi-5 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
