Adopt May

Mixed Breed Cat · Female

Hello world! My name is May! My personality: I am quite new here at rain, so I am still finding my feet. I am a shy girl, I have had a lot of upheaval in my short life so I can be quite wary of new people. Once I know you, however, I absolutely love to be fussed and have my head scratched. I am still learning how to play with toys, the big feathers are my current favourite! The staff here say they know I will make someone a fantastic pet! My ideal home: I would love a home with understanding owners, who will allow me to come around in my own time. I have previously lived with another cat, so it would definitely be possible for me to live with one again, as long as the introductions are slow and steady. Access to outdoors: I have been an indoor cat previously but once I have fully settled in I could go outdoors too. Toileting: I am litter trained and I am using grit litter at the moment. Did you know: Tabby cats are not a breed, but a coat pattern that can appear in many breeds and colours. My adoption fee is £125

About May

What life with May looks like

May is a large adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Rain Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting May, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about May?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rain Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw May on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt May if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rain Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is May already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if May isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rain Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know May and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
