MJ

German Shepherd · Female · Young · 2 years

Meet our lovely German Shepherd mix, MJ! MJ is an affectionate but very sensitive girl who has found kennel life difficult. She arrived very frightened, hiding in her kennel and initially refusing to go outside. Although she has made good progress, the world can still feel overwhelming for her. MJ needs experienced and patient owners who understand nervous dogs and can help her build confidence at her own pace. She can be worried around unfamiliar people, but with time she has shown her affectionate side with the handlers she has bonded with. MJ can also be worried around other dogs and may react defensively or with frustration when frightened. However, when given plenty of space and introduced slowly, she can relax and show a more sociable and playful side. She can sometimes get carried away during play, so her new owners will need to be confident managing her interactions and continuing her socialisation and training. MJ has spent time with a regularly visiting child in her previous home and got on well, so she could potentially live with calm, confident teenagers who can give her time and space to settle. She would be best as the only dog in the home, in a quiet area with a secure garden. Her new owners will also need to continue working on her confidence, recall and lead skills without putting her under too much pressure. MJ isn't looking for a busy lifestyle or big adventures just yet. She needs someone who can give her the time, patience and understanding she needs to settle and grow in confidence. In return, she has the potential to blossom into a loving and playful companion. ❤️ If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about MJ, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About MJ

What life with MJ looks like

MJ is a medium-sized young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting MJ, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about MJ?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw MJ on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt MJ if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is MJ already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if MJ isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know MJ and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
