Adopt Nando

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 1 year

I am Nando – a typical young German Shepherd x Border Collie mix: lively, playful, and full of energy. I love being active, discovering new things, and experiencing something with my people. With my friendly and social nature, I approach life with curiosity and would like to be everywhere. It’s still a bit challenging for my age to really settle down. That’s why I need people who can give me security with patience, clear structure, and consistent leadership, showing me how to go through life more relaxed. With the right support, I will definitely develop into a great companion. For me, dog-experienced people are sought who are ready to continue working intensively with me. It’s important to have genuine dog experience – simply growing up with dogs is not enough for me. My people should know how to give a young, active dog clear direction and work consistently on their upbringing. Attending dog training classes is a must for me so I can continue to learn, better orient myself to my people, and find peace. Additionally, I wish for people who can bring enough time for my development, mental stimulation, and upbringing and who enjoy working together with me. Other pets should not live in my new home. A home with young children also doesn’t suit me at the moment. As I’m still growing, it’s not yet clear how my joints will develop. The animal shelter cannot guarantee anything about my parents’ hip health, as I’m currently too young for such examinations. Additionally, I will need to be neutered by no later than two years of age. This is contractually agreed upon. I am looking for people who are excited about the adventure of being a young dog and who will accompany me on my journey with calmness, patience, time, and loving consistency. About Nando

What life with Nando looks like

Nando is a small young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim am Böhler in Unterkulm.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nando, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nando?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim am Böhler handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nando on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nando if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim am Böhler will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nando already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nando isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim am Böhler early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nando and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
