Achillo

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 1 year

During our team project tour in mid-April 2026, we also visited our partner Caterina. For several months now, Achille, a beautiful young sheepdog mix, has been in her care. And the team finally wanted to meet him. Achille came from a very unpleasant environment. And he is not the first dog from this environment to have come into our care. Like the dog we saved a year ago from being put to sleep and had operated on to treat the fractures and injuries the dog supposedly suffered in a car accident, Achille was also injured: he had a severe wound on one hind leg, and the other hind leg was broken. A collapsed wall was said to have caused Achille's injuries... but no one believed that. Because the dog owner has long been suspected of mistreating his dogs, but there had been no legal possibilities to intervene. At least until a few weeks ago. Now three more dogs - fortunately still unharmed - have been taken away by the authorities and brought to the shelter, where they are now safe. But back to Achille: We had Achille operated on, and our partner took him in because no one at the shelter could do that. Achille was not allowed to jump, climb or run. For weeks, bandages had to be changed regularly and check-ups carried out at the clinic in Olbia. Until all of this was finally over and Achille could start a new life with initially moderate, short walks. But all these hardships are behind Achille now. He is fit and healthy. He is a power package full of joy for life. And he is also incredibly people-oriented, enjoys cuddles. Achille has a great character. What he needs now are the people who can give him a home forever, people he can trust, who include him in all family activities. We are sure he will return the affection he receives a hundredfold. Would you like to take this treasure into your family? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and you are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy, but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. Doch all diese Strapazen liegen hinter Achille. About Achillo

What life with Achillo looks like

Achillo is a large young adult german shepherd dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Achillo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Achillo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Achillo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Achillo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Achillo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Achillo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Achillo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
