Adopt Nanuk

Samoyed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Samojede unneutered male dog, born July 2021 | Height: 63 cm | Weight: 23 kg | Children: yes, see text | Cats: no | Dogs: yes, vaccinated | microchipped, adoptable This animal can be adopted if there is suitable space after sufficient familiarization. Nanuk is a purebred Samoyed male dog born in July 2021, surrendered to the animal shelter for health reasons. He lived with a family in a house with a garden in a rural setting since puppyhood. Nanuk had contact with children (3-4 years old) who visited the family, but he has not yet lived with children directly. Rassetypisch, he is an active, open, and playful fellow, but also quite stubborn and willful. Unfortunately, polite behavior towards humans has been somewhat neglected; he jumps up out of excitement and can be very forward. Currently, he is quite shocked that his previous carefree life is now over and he must adhere to certain rules when interacting with humans. However, these rules are already showing positive effects, and his cheeky behavior is transforming into a friendly approach. Nanuk is very friendly and nice, allowing himself to be brushed and is otherwise very people-friendly and nice. He can be left alone for a reasonable amount of time and is well house-trained. He is well-behaved on a leash and enjoys going for car rides. We are looking for a home for him with Samoyed enthusiasts in a rural area, preferably with a garden. This is a puppy.

About Nanuk

What life with Nanuk looks like

Nanuk is a adult samoyed cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nanuk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nanuk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nanuk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nanuk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nanuk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nanuk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nanuk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
