(Can have video) Update 11/2025: Pepo had surgery on his right knee. He did not have a patellar luxation, which is common in many small dog breeds, but a luxation of the long toe extensor. This was surgically stabilized at the beginning of October and the surgeon predicted good healing prospects. Pepo had to rest for several weeks and is now learning, with slow walks on a short leash, to load his leg again normally. The animal shelter staff are very satisfied because he is loading his leg much better now; he just needs to build up muscle strength again. Targeted exercises and physiotherapy would certainly be very helpful, but this is only rarely possible in the daily routine of the animal shelter. Pepo is not bothered by all of this; he is a cheerful dog who is looking forward to a home of his own. Pepo celebrated his first birthday in the animal shelter, after having been given up by an unstable family. We got to know Pepo in May. He is a jolly fellow who comes across as a bit bolder than he actually is. It should not be forgotten that he was still quite new in the animal shelter at that time, which is a very impressive situation for any dog. Pepo met us, as unfamiliar people, somewhat distantly and even barked at us once. However, when dealing with people he knew, he was very nice and clingy. He also passed the cat test with flying colors. Naturally, he was curious, but he remained consistently friendly in contact with the cats behind the fence. Pepo gives a rather sensitive impression. His people should therefore not only see the stubborn dachshund, but also a gentle soul in him, which is still testing itself due to its age and is not yet firmly established, and therefore seeks loving guidance and support. (mit Video) Update 11/2025: Pepo wurde am rechten Knie operiert. Er hatte keine Patellaluxation, wie sie vielen kleinen Hunderassen vorkommt, sondern eine Luxation des langen Zehenstreckers. Dieser wurde Anfang Oktober chirurgisch stabilisiert und der Chirurg hat gute Heilungsaussichten prognostiziert. Pepo musste einige Wochen Ruhe halten und lernt nun in langsamen Spaziergängen an der kurzen Leine, sein Bein wieder normal zu belasten. Die Tierheimmitarbeiter sind sehr zufrieden, denn er belastet sein Bein wieder deutlich besser, nun muss er nur wieder Muskulatur aufbauen. Dafür wären gezielte Übungen und Physiotherapie natürlich sehr hilfreich, doch leider ist dies im Tierheimalltag nur sehr unregelmäßig umsetzbar. Pepo ficht das alles nicht an, er ist ein gutgelaunter Hundebube, der sehnlichst auf ein eigenes Zuhause wartet. Pepo musste seinen 1. Geburtstag im Tierheim feiern, nachdem er von einer nicht sesshaften Familie abgegeben worden ist. Wir durften Pepo im Mai kennenlernen. Er ist ein lustiger Geselle, der gerne ein wenig forscher daher kommt, als er wirklich zu sein scheint. Nun darf man nicht vergessen, dass er zu dem Zeitpunkt noch recht neu im Tierheim war und dies für jeden Hund erst einmal eine sehr beeindruckende Situation ist. Uns als für ihn fremde Menschen begegnete Pepo etwas distanziert und kläffte uns auch mal an. Im Umgang mit den ihm bekannten Menschen zeigte er sich jedoch sehr nett und anhänglich. Sogar den Katzentest hat er mit Bravour bestanden. Natürlich war er neugierig, blieb aber durchweg freundlich im Kontakt mit den Stubentigern hinterm Zaun. Pepo macht einen recht sensiblen Eindruck. Seine Menschen sollten also nicht nur den dickköpfigen Dackel, sondern auch eine sanfte Seele in ihm sehen, die sich altersbedingt noch ausprobiert und noch lange nicht gefestigt ist und deshalb liebevolle Führung und Unterstützung sucht.
