Pflegehund Valerie

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Adopted in Germany since: October 2026 Currently in foster care in: 25337 Elmshorn Estimated age: born approx. March 2023 Estimated shoulder height: approx. 30–39 cm Estimated weight: approx. 10–14 kg Meet Valerie directly in the video and in further pictures! Mama dog Valerie is looking for her own forever family in 25337 Elmshorn! Valerie was rescued together with her puppies from a Romanian street and taken in by the animal shelter. A man first took the little family into his garden so they could stay safely, and then asked for support. From the very beginning, Valerie showed herself to be very people-oriented, affectionate, and easy to handle. More information about how dogs come to the shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal welfare FAQ. Valerie has now been lucky enough to travel from the Romanian shelter to a German foster home. This has many advantages: here she can get to know life in a household and her character can be better assessed. In addition, foster-home dogs can be visited and gotten to know before deciding on an adoption. For now, Valerie is simply arriving at her foster home. As soon as we can say more about her character, we will add it here. If you have already fallen in love with her, feel free to send us a self-disclosure form using the button below. Even at the shelter, Valerie clearly sought out closeness to people. Before even entering her kennel, she greeted visitors with a wagging tail. Inside the kennel, she first went excitedly from person to person. After a few minutes she was able to sit down and enjoy being petted. She let herself be touched everywhere and showed herself equally open toward men and women. She also calmly allowed her spay wound to be cared for and lay down relaxed on her back during the process. At the same time, Valerie observed her surroundings very attentively. She noticed sounds and movements outside the kennel immediately and often ran to the gate to check on them. In a new environment and on the leash, she still appeared unsure. Even on the playground, she found it difficult to cope with the unfamiliar situation. For Valerie, we wish for a calm home that gives her time to get used to new situations and, together with her, to discover the environment in which she feels comfortable in the long term. For this furry companion, we hope for people who are aware that shelter dogs come with a certain history. We can never predict at the shelter how a dog will respond to life in Germany. That is why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts rather than buys not only gives an animal a second chance, but also actively chooses against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion at their side. Already in love? Send us a self-disclosure form! Adoption If you are considering adopting, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, deflead, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to write to our placement team.

About Pflegehund Valerie

What life with Pflegehund Valerie looks like

Pflegehund Valerie is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pflegehund Valerie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pflegehund Valerie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pflegehund Valerie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pflegehund Valerie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Pflegehund Valerie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pflegehund Valerie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pflegehund Valerie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
